FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Orie Receives Guardian of Small Business Award For Her Voting Record On Behalf of Job-CreatorsThe National Federation of Independent Businesses has named Sen. Jane Orie, Majority Whip (R-Allegheny) a "Guardian of Small Business" for her strong voting record on behalf of Pennsylvania's small business owners. During the 2007-2008 Legislative Session of the General Assembly, Orie had a 100 percent voting record on issues of important to small businesses. The votes tracked included legislation to make health insurance more affordable, reduce frivolous lawsuits, protect the rights of private property owners and reduce the tax burden on small businesses. In a letter to Orie, NFIB State Director Kevin Shivers said "The record shows that when the roll call was taken, you were a true and consistent advocate for Main Street small businesses." Orie, who serves as Majority Whip of the Senate, said her votes are in line with her commitment to hold down government spending, provide tax relief and fight against costly bureaucracy that hurts businesses. "Small businesses are the engines of our economy, and we need to do all we can to help them succeed, expand and create more jobs," Orie said. "I'm pleased to receive this award, and even more committed in these tough economic times to ensure that state government does all it can to help job creators and promote a small business agenda in the legislature."
